The issue is that google likes to give out different formats of the docs
URLs for some use cases:

For example:

I uploaded this document:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EQUAo9tRk6QXAgS6NAl9YaawZt6DfEgcDryK2GmLjx0/edit?hl=en_US

I copied this document from somewhere on the internet and have reshared
it, but I cannot republish it:
https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=1CIfh5ZZWUgaFitCXNjXWfkAMG8weXU9YndNXaJDwGIaNRP8jQPQKJvPy2KWj&hl=en_US
(URLs for documents saved from emails also look like this).

There are also different URLs for clicking through to the document
that's attached to an email someone receives with gmail, and they
contain identity information.

Can you tell me more about how your document got to your docs account?

  googledocs block doesnt like link from google docs

  I was wondering if the GoogleApps block type supports the google viewer for embedding views of PDFs?
  e.g. this one:

  I would like the PDF to show up in Mahara, but when I put this URL in
  it simply doesn’t show.

  Also the normal GoogleDocs block is broken because the URL google
  provides is BROKEN!

  e.g. this: https://docs.google.com/a//document/pub?id=1BWGRmw6V8y7vkPPzOaJPh9EaCFztn7PhHEHpKfrCM0o
  should be https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1BWGRmw6V8y7vkPPzOaJPh9EaCFztn7PhHEHpKfrCM0o
  (no “a/” )
