Subject: [Bug 1203598] Re: journal embedded images fail to load

Hello Shane,

Getting internal Mahara images into a journal entry is not easy as you
discovered. The process is described in the manual at
http://manual.mahara.org/en/1.7/content/journal.html#add-an-image-from-
mahara

There is a wishlist item already at bug #1038580. :-)

Title:
journal embedded images fail to load

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  New

Bug description:
Hi all, this is both a "bug" and a wishlist item.

A unit convener spent some hours trying to work out why the image they
added to their journal was not appearing on their portfolio page.

  Steps:
  1) create journal entry
  2) embed an image via URL (image file is within Mahara files)
  3) add journal to a page
  4) share page
  5) journal loads for audience but not the image. no explanation or error is shown.

To fix this we had to watch user contributed Youtube videos and find
out that we had to attach images, and then embed the attached images
from the same dialogue we used to embed the same image by URL. Some
  ideas/wishes follow:

  1) that users are somehow informed that Mahara stored images being embedded via URL will not show on pages and have to be added another way (and what that way is).
  2) ability to Drag and drop attached files into the journal text, as an alternative method from the "add an image" in the editor which lets users do things that don't work because it doesn't understand Mahara access controls. This still requires attaching the image files first, what if I could drag an image from my desktop to the journal post and Mahara uploads, attaches, and embeds the image for me all in one fell swoop?

  Cheers,
  Shane.
