  Sending a message fails after upgrade

Bug description:
  Version: Mahara 1.8.0
  Upgrade from Version: 1.6.1

  I successfully upgraded my mahara from 1.6.1 to 1.8.0:
  core                             1.6.1 -> 1.8.0
  artefact.file                    1.2.1 -> 1.2.1
  artefact.resume              1.0.1 -> 1.0.2
  atrefact.comment           0.0.2 -> 0.0.3
  auth.ldap                       1.0.0 -> 1.1.0
  blocktype.externalfeed    1.0.3 -> 1.0.3

  The OS is: Ubuntu Server
  Database: MySQL
  Browser: Firefox 24.0

  When I'm logged in the system and I try to send a message to another
  user then the following error message appears:

  Mahara: Site unavailable
  A nonrecoverable error occurred. This probably means you have encountered a bug in the system 

  The potential recipient does not receive the message.

  Is someone able to help me?
