This is still the case: But the question is "Is this bad functionality?"

If I am adding a task, lets say 'tidy my room' and I expect to finish it
in 3 days I might add a task with the completion date 3 days in future.
I then clean my room that day and update task as completed, that seems
normal functionality.

so if I decide the task and how long it should take, do the task, then
add the task to mahara all in one step then I should be able to have a
date in the future as completion date and be allowed to state task is
finished.

  My Portfolio > Plans > Am able to set my completed date in the future

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:

Bug description:
  Hey Guys I was looking at my portfolio and edited one of my plans and
  and did the following

  1. Changed the "Completed date" to the 30/07/2020

  2. Checked task completed check box

  3. Clicked on the "Save Task' button

  
  I was expecting to be validated regarding the completion date being in the future and being able to check the check box for completed.
