To expand on what Robert said, we usually only fix bugs in the most
three recent Mahara releases (currently 1.8, 1.9, and 1.10). See

  Portfolios aren't importing for 1.2_STABLE

Bug description:
  Hi all,

  When I was testing on 1.2_STABLE I couldn't import a Portfolio. It was
  exporting as a zip file, when I went to import it it was still a zip
  file that I was uploading but it didn't recgonise it as one and it
  gave an error message saying:

  Message: "This file has not been detected to be a zipfile or XML file"
