+1 for this, because it's a standard part of forum functionality. There
are a lot of UI questions to consider though, as you've laid out.

I think in terms of access control, we keep it simple. If you can see
the forum post in its original context, then you can see it on the
"user's forum posts" screen.

I have no idea where this page should "live" though. Putting it as a
link on the user's profile page would support a lot of use-cases,
although this raises the question of whether we'd want to allow other
plugins to add links to the profile page as well, or do we just hard-
code in the forum as a special case? (We have already hard-coded it into
other places, like the notification code that allows for forum emails to
be properly threaded in an email client.)

  See all forum contributions from one person

Bug description:

  It would be good if there was a list of all the contributions one
  person has made in any group. This could be accomplished by searching
  for their name and then clicking a "Discussions" tab and seeing all
  the contributions (and links back to the forum topics).

  The feedback for this feature has been great and others think it would
  be a good addition.

  A few questions spring to mind that would need to be answered:
  - What to do with forum posts in groups that are hidden or where forums are used for individual mentoring / working confidentially? I suspect that a group admin / forum moderator who has staff / admin access should be able to decide not having certain forums included in the listing
  - Where to put the link to the contributions? Since we wouldn't want to see things on a per group basis (I assume) but overarchingly, it should probably sit under "Groups" or do we not need / want a page where you can explore all contributions?  What sorting / filtering options should be available on the page where we display contributions? Should it be a search page for people and then display their contributions or would you only get to the contributions by clicking somewhere on their profile? Or should it just be:
  - Where do you click to get to their contributions? The profile picture is always linked to the profile. How would you get to the contribution? In Moodle, you get to the contributions by clicking on a user's profile and then finding "Forum contributions" in the navigation. So there is actually no link directly in the forum to all contributions from a person, but just on the profile.
  - What does the page with the contributions look like? What information is needed? Besides the actual post, we would need to display / link to the forum. We should probably also mention the group.
