Message #29428
[Bug 1500818] Re: Quick publish journal to page
Yeah, I think the big shared-tenancy Mahara site in Finland (whose name
I forget) has something along these lines as one of its customizations.
The way blogs (journals) work in Mahara is a bit different from how they
work on other platforms. Other journalling systems, you just write the
blog entry, and then you set visibility for the blog entry itself right
there. But in Mahara, the blog entry is an artefact, and we don't have
the ability to share artefacts without first embedding them in pages, so
you have to put the blog entry into a page first, and then share the
page. This is true for all artefact types in Mahara, but I think users
find it the most confusing, in regards to blog entries.
So really, the deeper fix for this is to get artefact-level sharing
implemented.
But that's a big endeavor, so in the meantime, some kind of shortcut
from the artefact editing/creation screen, to the page level, would
probably help things out. I've heard of some large Mahara sites having
customizations along these lines already.
Cheers,
Aaron

Title:
Quick publish journal to page
Status in Mahara:
Confirmed
Bug description:
This is an enhancement request/ suggestion / idea not a bug.
I think that Mahara would be more user friendly if some of the steps
to complete certain actions were reduced.
An idea I have had to this end is to create a button/ feature to quick
publish from the journal section directly to a page.
I imagine it as a button in the journal section that says something
like 'Publish to page'.
Once clicked this button would ask you whether you wanted to create a
new page or publish to existing.
after making this choice the journal would either be added to a
default position on the page (say the top left corner) or it would
create a new 1 column/ 1 row page with just the journal on it.
