I've tried a selection of xine outputs, including those you suggest and
auto. The same problem I'm afraid -plays fine for an avergae of 10 mins,
then stops.

I upgraded ffmpeg and xine-lib, and now when it hangs I get a frozen frame
rather than a blank screen, but other than that no joy.

Perhaps the next thing to try is downgrading my me-tv release to confirm the
fault vanishes.
