Tekla: next steps
Hola,
While working on the Tekla input method for Android I realized there
are quite a few soft keyboard applications already available in the
Android market. Some of these apps are open source and at least one of
them seems to support third-party plug-ins.
I think that for subsequent releases of Tekla, we should consider
merging the accessibility features we have created into one of the
existing open source keyboards or make it available as a plug-in. This
would allow us to focus exclusively on the accessibility features and
"delegate" the work on standard features for typical users, to those who
are already working on them. I think this would also facilitate
maintaining and updating Tekla quickly and effectively.
The best candidate for this I have found so far is:
anySoftKeyboard: http://code.google.com/p/softkeyboard/
there is also a paid app (likely closed source) that we could also
consider since it is in the top 50 Android apps and also seems to
support plug-ins:
Better Keyboard: http://betterandroid.wordpress.com/ (paid $2.99)
cheers!
Jorge
