Re: Tekla 0.3a released!

Right, have installed Tekla 0.3a and yes, indeed, I now get switch
release events! When one switch is held down, if I press a second,
that's ignored (which I think is fair enough), and I get a release
event for whichever I release last. Fine, cool, that works nicely! :)
Actually, I've been thinking about exposing all switch states whenever anything changes and let applications process the difference. Maybe I'll add it as a future for subsequent releases.

I don't see any events being generated for the "extra" switches, tho -
I note you've added "extra 1" and "extra 2" to the Switch Event Flow
wiki page, with Bluetooth IDs, so presume this means later models of
H/W have two jack sockets (even better); but no Android IDs for them.
(i.e. just to check I'm not missing anything here?! If I downloaded
source code, do you think this would be straightforward to add?).
I just added the Android IDs to the table. Extra switch 2 won't work but extra shield 1 should. Could you confirm? If it doesn't work let me know and we'll set up a time to go through the firmware upgrade for the Proto I.

Also impressed by the self-scanning mode: it works quite decently for
navigation, launching apps, going back to desktop, etc., and I managed
to activate my TTS, enter some text, speak it, switch to gmail, read
and delete an email, etc. Excellent, nice work! :). Unfortunately the
navigation keyboard does disappear from the screen when some menus,
etc., are popped up, but I doubt there's a lot we can do about
that...:-(. If we can get this working with Dasher for text entry as
well, it'll be fabulous :).
We may be able to fix the pop-ups with a custom theme and students from UBC are working on the menu. Hopefully we can come up with a good solution. Re: using single switch with Dasher, currently the switch is an overlay called by the IME, so I need to move the code to the SEP so it can be exposed to otherapplications/IMEs. This should be part of the wider discussion regarding the future of the SEP

Great stuff, keep up the good work :-).
thanks!

Cheers, Alan

Hola All,

Just to let you know that the latest version of Tekla 0.3a has just
been released. This version incorporates basic self-scanning and a
feature to use the entire screen as a single switch. Other significant
changes include the addition of switch release and extra switch event
broadcasting to the Switch Event Provider for those of you working in
compatibility with other apps (Alan).

Note that a better system than switch event broadcasting will be
explored for future versions, however, for now you will be able to
implement the additional functionality.

For those of you still working on features that were not targeted for
this release, I have merged all changes to the trunk series, so you can
now start pulling from trunk instead of the self-scanning branch. I will
also separate the Android app into its own series for subsequent
releases so you don't have to "carry around" all the extra code that you
may not need.

Please install the new version from the Android market and let me know
if you identify any significant issues that should be addressed
immediately. There was lots of testing done with this version, but since
the code base is getting a bit complex, there is always the possibility
that we might have missed something.

If you have any comments and/or questions, please don't hesitate to
contact me.

cheers!
Jorge
