here a mockup of Network Manager's current menu up with the indicators..

I believe we will simplify this menu on the long run, since network manager does most of its work automatically after a short learning period.

The list of all available wireless networks can be displayed in a seperate dialog, while the main indicator menu will help to serve a more important purpose: status and quality of internet connection.

am i ONLINE or am i OFFLINE

so far, NM only shows us, whether we are connected to a Network. This information is trivial in most use cases, since the network relevant in most use cases is WAN and not LAN or PAN.
