Seems like the plan is to show the usb drives in the Unity's Launcher,
not sure if it would be wise to duplicate on the launcher and the
indicator.

Will Unity take over on the desktop version too? So far it's all about the netbook interface isn't it? And if the desktop will not be Unity-based, then it's not duplicating anything - some indicators are netbook specific, so there can be indicators IMO, that are desktop specific.
