The default behavior should be that the backlight should be turned off for all the launchers, after all the chevrons on the left and right of the launcher are to indicate the app is running/focused. This way the launcher looks much attractive also icons like Ubuntu One or Faenza icon theme would suit much more than the usual icons around.
