  Connecting offline - just opening a profile - has been a long-time
  requested feature (april 2009:

  This can be fixed by adjusting the 'connect' option to have a little
  drop-down on its right side, spawning a menu that says 'Open profile
  offline'. It'll then load the profile but not initiate a MUD
  connection.
