Title:
  Spellchecker highlighter is not showing on Ubuntu

Bug description:
  Spellchecker highlighter is not showing on Ubuntu (12.04) - I'm not
  sure since when, but it's been so for a while now. I can still right-
  click on words that are spelt wrong to get replacement suggestions,
  but the word itself is not underlined in red.
