One from the reference I know is iCon

But it is only research and has many things which need to evolve like
the definition of device (still represent a device according to its
physical entity)
(and it is made with Java Errrr. !!...)
Speaking about how a similar things can applied to Linux, we may need
a library in a similar way to mtdev which get an input and give
another (but it needs to be able to dynamically adapted)
Then base all the top layers of the stack on that library.
All of this need more brainstorming !
