I am also having this issue I have an 8.10 mstr b/e with mythbuntu using jya repos and two f/e with mythbuntu 9.10 and jya repos. This bug is affecting two different lcd devices in my case a 15c2:ffdc Soundgraph(imon) and a hd44780 Vlsys Mplay device. 
 All machines are current and on /branches/release-0-22-fixes 23565 B/E and F/E's and completely updated 
 Kernels are 2.6.31-19-generic 

 errors in log on boot up are always

Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV: Incomplete

Bug description:
After a clean boot, MythTV is not using the LCD display. I have to kill mythlcdserver manually (why is there no init/upstart script for it?) and restart it, to get the LCD being used by the MythTV frontend/backend.
