Mplayer nowadays at least depends on libfaad-dev instead, which is in
universe.

This is in universe nowadays as well.

This is the only remaining dependency problem AFAIK (checking what gets
installed with apt-get build-dep mplayer) for moving mplayer to
universe.

Bug description:
Binary package hint: mplayer
I'm wondering why there is no mplayer in universe. Debian approved mplayer for their main-repo so there shouldn't be any licensing problems. So I think having mplayer in multiverse and not in universe is a bug.
