Ok, I installed mythtv auto-builds, fixes25221 seems to resolve the
issue. Now, i only need to start mythtv, exit, and start mythtv again to
play dvds. :)  Still looks like the default repos for Ubuntu need to be
updated with this fix. Thanks guys.

trying to play dvds results in "Video frame buffering failed too many times" 
no picture is seen, some sound can be heard, untill mythdvd plugin exits.
