Why does it need root permissions to probe the card?  This sounds like
the permissions for the card aren't properly being set in the first
place.

  mythtv-setup doesn't have root when launched from MCC or pulldown menu

Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV:
  New

Bug description:
  When I launch mythtv-setup from System -> Admin, or from MCC, it can
  not probe my PVR-USB2 card.  I have to launch from the command line
  with "sudo mythtv-setup" in order for it to be able to probe.
