Title:
Documentation: preparing for Mythbuntu 9.10
Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV:
Fix Released
Bug description:
Hello,
this bug report is an attempt to contact the mythbuntu-documentation
team, as Launchpad is somewhat lacking in that aspect right now.
The Mythbuntu Intrepid release is approaching rapidly, and we should
get the documentation into shape right now. Instructions for getting
the documentation source are here:
http://wiki.mythbuntu.org/mythbuntu/contributing/documentation
We need to update existing sections, beginning with the installation.
If a few people sat down with a copy of the manual and install
Mythbuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 and updated the manual to reflect the
differences, that'd be a great help. Any takers?
We also have some new applications for Intrepid which also need to be
mentioned, like mythbuntu-log-grabber (maybe in the "troubleshooting"
or "getting help" section) and mythexport. You can find the author of
these packages in #ubuntu-mythtv-dev on irc.freenode.net.
There also are a lot of incomplete sections in the manual. Please look
through it and find something you'd like to write. For example, look
at Chapter 11, pick your favourite plugin and write some basic
documentation or just a short description for it. We don't need to re-
invent the wheel - check other MythTV resources like
http://wiki.mythtv.org/ and the Ubuntu Wiki at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MythTV and just add a link to some
good documentation if you find some. However, it's always worth noting
Ubuntu specific things like path names.
If you plan on extending a section, please leave a note here to avoid
duplicated work.
Does anyone want to clean up the Community Docs at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MythTV? I'd argue that we don't need
documentation for 7.04 anymore as it has reached End Of Life. I'm not
sure what the policy on outdated documents is in the Wiki - maybe we
should just remove the links instead of deleting these pages
completely.
If there are any questions, feel free to drop by in #ubuntu-mythtv-dev
or send me an email to laga AT laga DOT ath DOT cx.
Regards,
Michael
