[Bug 778864] Re: mythtv-common 0.24 failed to upgrade from 0.23
Hi Mario, thanks for following up on this bug.
I missed your post yesterday; sorry about the delay.
By the way, I re-ran install mythtv-common twice, once immediately after
the first failure, & again nearly 1 hour later. These re-runs used the
already downloaded file. The initial & first re-run did not trigger any
apports "because MaxReports is reached already" (whatever that means).
However, the second re-run did, so I was able to create this bug report.
As requested, here is an extract of my file /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt for
Desktop2:
DBHostName=http://192.168.0.113
# 2 lines of comment
DBHostPing=no
DBUserName=mythtv
DBPassword=L7cXdPk0
DBName=mythconverg
DBType=QMYSQL3
# 17 lines of comment
The above is exactly the same as in my combined back & frontend PC,
HTPC1.
Further to your suggestion, I have changed the bug report to "private".
I am basically an end user, who has had to learn a bit about things to
be able to continue using all the good facilities of Ubuntu. One aspect
that I do not know is script (but I can faithfully copy some when given
to me, & run it), so I am not sure what I can/should do with the extract
you provided in post #3...
Regards, Garry.

Title:
mythtv-common 0.24 failed to upgrade from 0.23
Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Ubuntu 10.10 + MythTV frontend on this PC.
I have Myth TV 0.24 (combined back- & font-ends) installed on a different PC.
I wanted to be able to access the backend from the PC that I am now using.
Originally, I installed the package listed in Synaptic (ver 0.23). However, when I tried to set it up, it would not allow me to continue, due to the different database versions (or words to that effect).
I then looked up how to get a PPA, entered that detail into the synaptic repository sources, & downloaded the update to 0.24.
During the installation of the update, mythtv-common failed, reporting these lines of text:
setting up mythtv-common (2:0:24.0+fixes.20110507.5d38c49-0ubuntu0mythbuntu2) ...
sed: -e expression #1, char 45: unknown option to 's'
dpkg: error processing myth-common (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
No apport report written because MaxReports is reached already;
There was also this error message:
E: mythtv-common: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
E: mythtv-frontend: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
There was enough of MythTV working to be able to set it up.
However, it drops to a black screen whenever I use esc.
The availability of this remote frontend is not time critical.
However, I would like to finalise the setup & be able to say that this
task is finished & working.
I can appreciate that working with a PPA has risks. After I installed
0.24 on my front & backend PC, I disabled the PPA in the repository
source, so that I wouldn't get updates. I plan to move to 11.04 later
this month & then allow all updates.
I hope that this information is of help. Regards, Garry.
