Title:
  Past the Black Screen, Now Install Stops on a text screen without
  fully installing.

Bug description:
  Clean HD Install of 10.04 I have gotten past the black screen but
  after the splash screen with status bar the screen flashes several
  times on text only screens and stops at a command prompt. Just to make
  sure the computer is OK I installed an older version of Ubuntu (7.1)
  which installed and runs great.
