When this happens and you see mythfrontend running can you switch VT's
to the VT X is on?

Title:
  Mythbuntu 11.10 does not switch away from splash on startup (Fresh
  install)

Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  My newly installed Mythbuntu box sometimes does not start up
  correctly. It does not switch from the splash screen to the desktop,
  but I can ssh into the system and see that mythfrontend is running, so
  I am assuming that the desktop has been started. This error happens on
  maybe every 5'th boot and I have not been able to correlate it with
  something I do.

  The last time it happened I copied all the files in /var/log. I have
  attached X.log and syslog, let me know if you need other logs.
