I also had this problem, but fixed it using the playback profiles in mythtv.

Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV:
  New

Bug description:
  HD video shows vertical pink lines, jerking back and forth.  HD
  playback in Movie Player is still good.  SD playback in both MythTV
  and Movie Player.  I'm using the Nvidia graphics driver with jockey-
  gtk, but the open source driver has the same issues.
