Hi! I have same problem with VLC player as well (normal 10.04 LTS
Mythbuntu VLC 1.06, which is quite old). I don't have mplayer installed
at all.

I have to try with these "-v playback" options with frontend and attach
logs here.

Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Pixar Cars 2 DVD playback hangs and jumps occasionally with mythDVD. I
  have Mythbuntu 10.04 + mythtv 0.24.1 from Mythbuntu repos (latest
  updates in use). It seems, that css-encrypted Disney DVD's are
  problematic for Internal player or libdvdcss2 module itself (?).
