[Bug 992467] Re: Mythbuntu Fails to Install GRUB Correctly

On that same installer screen there is a drop down dialog that asks you
where to install GRUB. Do you know what you selected during install
there? My suspicion is you picked the default (which happened to be
your default boot device - the USB stick).

If you're sure you didn't pick that default, can you please attach the
logs from /var/log/installer to this bug?

Title:
  Mythbuntu Fails to Install GRUB Correctly

Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV:
  New

Bug description:
  I have two Acer Aspire Revos, which had a previous install of
  Mythbuntu. I installled Mythbunti 12.04, reformatting the / partition,
  but leaving /home. After installation GRUB couldn't find the installed
  kernel. However, if I booted with the usb stick that I used to install
  Mythbuntu inserted it booted OK.

  Note I was booting from the HD, not the USB stick. I am guessing that
  the installer wrote the GRUB info to the USB stick instead of the hard
  drive.

  Other info:

  # /etc/fstab: static file system information.
  #
  # Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a
  # device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices
  # that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
  #
  # <file system> <mount point>   <type>  <options>       <dump>  <pass>
  proc            /proc           proc    nodev,noexec,nosuid 0       0
  # / was on /dev/sda1 during installation
  UUID=83898400-7d22-4c2d-86ba-2548082ead57 /               ext4    errors=remount-ro 0       1
  # /home was on /dev/sda3 during installation
  UUID=d769772b-3a15-4726-b045-e27d4fe47e80 /home           ext4    defaults        0       2
  # swap was on /dev/sda5 during installation
  UUID=459acfe5-6b2e-403f-babf-da8fdfd36cde none            swap    sw              0       0

  In the installer I chose to reformat /dev/sda1 and install Mythbuntu
  there, where the previous installation existed. I kept /dev/sda3 as
  home (ie not reformatted).
