[Bug 1099083] Re: The mythbuntu install disk should use nomodeset by default

This isn't a problem with precise (12.04 and 12.04.1), but starting with
12.04.2 and quantal+ some of the kernel drivers will not boot properly
with nomodeset. Intel specifically.

We can't alienate an entire group like that. The correct way to solve
it is to get the newer cards that don't work properly with the current
kernel stack fixed with newer kernels. We'll be doing hardware
enablement updates (12.04.2, 12.04.3, etc) that include an updated
kernel. So if you continue to see problems with the HWE releases,
please file bugs with details on the hardware against the kernel so that
they can be fixed.

Title:
The mythbuntu install disk should use nomodeset by default

Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
Given that the most commonly recommended video card for running myth
is an Nvidia, and that computers with Nvidia graphics can't boot
without the nomodeset option (at least they haven't for me), it would
be a good idea for the mythbuntu install disk to use the nomodeset
boot option by default, and (at least if the computer being installed
to has Nvidia graphics) also include nomodeset in the
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT variable in the /etc/default/grub file in
the target system being installed. This would save a lot of head
  scratching for novices.
