[Bug 1636761] Re: Update Manager fails to update liblirc-client0 without requiring apt-get -f install

Uh oh, I'm running 16.10 rather than 17.04 but ubuntu-bug thinks
otherwise. This is very worrying.

Title:
Update Manager fails to update liblirc-client0 without requiring apt-
  get -f install

Status in lirc package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
The Update Manager opened automatically on Yakkety. Tried to update
  liblirc-client0 from 0.9.4b-0.3 to 0.9.4c-1 but failed. Running `sudo
apt upgrade` produces the following error:

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
liblircclient0 : Depends: liblirc-client0 but it is not installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.

  Running `sudo apt-get -f install` installs liblirc-client0
  successfully.

A user shouldn't be expected to use the Terminal to get their computer
to update. What's the issue here that's preventing Update Manager from
  updating liblirc-client0 successfully?
