Novacut 12.11

What's New

This month was mostly a Dmedia
<https://launchpad.net/dmedia/trunk/12.11>bug-fix release, as we were
made aware of a number of critical bugs thanks
to our new automatic crash reporting with
Apport<http://jderose.blogspot.com/2012/09/how-to-use-apport-in-your-daily-ppa.html>.

I want to personally thank the many people who took the time to submit
crash reports, including David English<https://launchpad.net/%7Edavidlenglish>,
Wolf2 <https://launchpad.net/%7Ew-stoepfgeshoff>, Robert von
Burg<https://github.com/eitch>,
John Prat <https://launchpad.net/%7Ejohnprattchristian>, Sean
Fell<https://launchpad.net/%7Esfell>,
Matteo Ronchetti <https://launchpad.net/%7Emttronchetti>,
Renias<https://launchpad.net/%7Erenias-k>,
Angel Guzman Maeso <https://launchpad.net/%7Eshakaran>, Stéphane
Guillou<https://launchpad.net/%7Estephane-guillou>,
and kliurka <https://launchpad.net/%7Ebaruse> (appologies if I missed
anyone). I know it's a bit of a pain to submit crash reports, but they are
extremely helpful to us, so thank you!

And thanks to Laura
Czajkowski<https://plus.google.com/u/0/102921374554385564572/posts>for
offering me the opportunity to do a guest blog post on how
Novacut uses Launchpad<http://blog.launchpad.net/general/how-novacut-uses-launchpad>.
I tried to capture the key best-practices I've learned the past two years
to help new projects start off on the right foot.

Aside from all the bug fixing, probably the most noticeable change is the
Dmedia importer is now even faster (see filestore
12.11<https://launchpad.net/filestore/trunk/12.11>for details). This
is also the first monthly Novacut release available for
Ubuntu Raring (the new development version).
Cut with Novauct

Congrats to David
Jordan<https://plus.google.com/u/0/101813889111560624054/posts>,
cast, and crew for cutting the winning
entry<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWX1-CPaOQc>in a 49 hour film
contest with Novacut.

Thanks to Dane Henson
<https://plus.google.com/103873914093682743855/posts>for creating this
Novacut
Users group <https://vimeo.com/groups/166080> on Vimeo, and for cutting this
adorable video <http://vimeo.com/groups/166080/videos/53725060> with
Novacut.

And thanks to Impaler Media
Productions<https://www.youtube.com/user/ImpalerMediaProdz?feature=watch>for
cutting this
short test <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOxTf4CepK8> with Novacut.
Install Novacut 12.11

Please follow these
instructions<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Novacut/HowToInstall>to install
Novacut on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise), Ubuntu 12.11 (Quantal),
or Ubuntu Raring (the development version). Note that if you've already
installed a previous version of Novacut, you'll automatically get Novacut
12.11 the next time the Ubuntu Update Manager runs.

If you're trying Novacut for the first time, you probably want to
start by watching
this <https://vimeo.com/groups/novacutartistdiaries/videos/41021506> so you
understand a bit about Dmedia, and then watch
this<https://vimeo.com/groups/novacutartistdiaries/videos/41021504>to
get a good tour of Novacut.
