Dear all,

Since yesterday, no more bug !

I think it is due to an update of samba and related packages.

Current installed versions are: 2:3.5.4~dsfg-1ubuntu8.2

I still have the following messages in the log.nmbd file in /var/log/samba: 
"[2011/01/09 11:03:01.108343,  0] nmbd/nmbd_nameregister.c:72(register_name_response)
  register_name_response: Answer name Workgroup<00> differs from question name Workgroup<1e>.
[2011/01/09 11:03:03.110633,  0] nmbd/nmbd_workgroupdb.c:225(fail_register)
  fail_register: Failed to register name Workgroup<1e> on subnet 192.168.1.xxx.
[2011/01/09 11:03:03.110650,  0] nmbd/nmbd_namelistdb.c:307(standard_fail_register)
  standard_fail_register: Failed to register/refresh name Workgroup<1e> on subnet 192.168.1.xxx

But I guess this must be reported elsewhere...

Hope this information will help identifying where the problem was, so that its coming back can be avoided.
As I reported in post #2, this bug has already resurfaced after an update.

  sbackup crashes before starting the backup archive on CIFS mounted NAS
