We're weighing up multiple goals and the plusses and minues of various options. At the moment, the best way forward appears to be the Affero GPLv3 with the linking exception from GNU Classpath (allowing MindAgents based on other licenses, like Apache 2.0, to link to the core libs). In addition, an Apache-style conributor agreement would grant copyright to the SIAI (contributors would still retain their copyright, so the agreement effectively creates a dual-copyright for contributed code). Copyright assignment allows the SIAI to offer OpenCog core under different licenses, like proprietary use licenses for Novamente LLC and other companies, and to revise the existing licensing, for example to tweak the linking exception to include new FOSS licenses or relicense wholesale under the AGPLv4 if a decision is taken in the future that relicensing is the best course of action. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated! -dave
