Re: belated update
The most important PLN book chapters for you to read are

-- 10-14
Chapters 7-9 can be skipped on a first read
If you have to skip some of the above I'd say skip 12 and 14... tho
matt and I will likely discuss 12 extensively as it's largely
unimplemented so far...
