There's a development guide somewhere, written by Senna, that covers a bunch of this stuff, although it may require some updating. Anyway, it would be a good starting point for the cookbook.

Yesterday and today I've spent putting details about the Hopfield
Network Emulator up on the OpenCog wiki.
