Re: PLN status?

Hello Gustavo,

I run into problems at CMake dependency resolution stage. I made complete video docs of the whole process so please take a look.

You'll find my problem (strange dependencies, Python, GSL etc.) at the end (around 10:00) of

http://www.dreambroker.fi/w/fe4145813

which is a sequel to the less-exciting

http://www.dreambroker.fi/w/654839475

These videos and their forthcoming sequels may be useful to attach to the documentation. I'm sure that seeing how these things are done in practise will be useful. Also, for many of these libs, there's a large number of alternative downloads, and in fact I am not sure that my selection was correct either.

(Of course, they'll be OS-specific)

OpenCog should run on windows. Some people have worked on porting

I'm the one supposed to keep the system building on all platforms and
distros. But I'm afraid the Windows & MacOS platforms are not
high-priority tasks right now so don't be surprised if once in a while
the build breaks. I try to test every large patch I push on Windows
first, but I'm not sure if the others do the same.

I wonder if the Windows project/makefile is being maintained, or was it just
a temporary experiment? (I didn't complete my attempt at it yet because I
was told I have to install n+1 separate libs first.)

Unfortunately we can't avoid manually installing and configuring the
dependencies, as -- to the best of my knowledge -- the windows platform
doesn't provide any mechanisms to handle this. But, as Joel pointed out,
the README.win32 file provides instructions and links to assist you with
this.

I was thinking about creating a convenience ZIP file with the libraries
and headers of the required opencog dependencies (Expat & co, CSockets,
OpenSSL, CxxTest, Boost, PThreads-win32 and STLPort), but I was afraid
that there might be some legal implications.

Does anyone know what are the rules concerning the distribution of
binaries for the most popular OSS licenses (assuming the source code
hasn't been modified)?
