Grub no longer has support for serial terminal

Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
While following the serial console howto for Ubuntu there is a note
that you need to change /etc/default/grub and change the GRUB_TERMINAL
line to serial however upon changing that line and unhiding the menu
the following messages show up upon bootup. I am seeing this in 12.10
but will confirm that 12.4 is seeing this as well.
error: terminal `serial' isn't found.
error: terminal `serial' isn't found.
Attached is my systems grub config file. The guide I am referring to
can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SerialConsoleHowto
One thing to note is that I am still able to see the Grub message so
it could be no longer needed?
