This may be enough... A couple of quick questions on this one:

* Will a "multi-line/complex" description also propagate between modules?

* Would it be possible or feasible to allow HTML or a kind of Wiki style 
markup into these descriptions so we could then use this in reports etc? 
(Would allow us to apply some styling for Notes and/or Titles without 
needing a different a line item type)

Many thanks for the detailed reply Olivier,

That has helped a great deal and enables us to start planning and 
discussing with our customer what we will need to do for a migration.
