Re: OpenERP Apps v7.0 is live
To complete Olivier's email;
I think that having a strong Apps plateform similar to Android
Marketplace and Apple Apps Store (but open source, of course) is very
important for OpenERP.
This is great for end-users:
- one-click installation of any community module
- clean description page of community and official modules
- a good plateform to rate best modules, sort by install count, ...
It can also be great for contributors:
- better promote your own modules
- better promote authors of modules (clean webpage and branding)
I think it's important to have a plateform to easily rate (downloads,
votes, comments, ...) best modules. On the old apps plateform, it was
too complex to find best modules, evaluate and install them (due to
dependencies).
So, don't forget to:
- register your launchpad branches for v7 modules
- improve the description of your modules following the new HTML style
In a few weeks, we will communicate on the best community modules to
promote them and make them become the reference for future needs in
their scope.
Thanks,

Hello everyone,
We are glad to announce that the new OpenERP Apps platform has finally
been launched today on http://apps.openerp.com <http://apps.openerp.com/>
It now fully replaces the former "v6apps" version, and you can proceed
to register your v7.0 modules <https://apps.openerp.com/admin>
immediately. Most previously registered repositories and branches have
been importedand are still available.
*
What's new in OpenERP Apps 7.0?*
* Front-end integration on OpenERP.com <http://OpenERP.com>: all
community modules can now be found directly from the OpenERP homepage.
* Integration with OpenERP 7.0: the new Apps platform has been
integrated in OpenERP 7.0 since the release (via Settings/Apps),
but it was limited to official modules so far. Now all community
modules registered for the current series are available as well
(after un-checking the "Featured" search filter).
* One-click installation: when you install an App in OpenERP 7.0,
all dependencies are automatically downloaded and installed as
needed, including community modules.
* Prettier descriptions: registered modules can now have a full HTML
description on the website^1 in addition to to the plain text one
(example: CRM <https://www.openerp.com/apps/crm/>).
* More features are coming soon, this is only the first iteration:
better front-end and navigation, improved searching & sorting,
comments, etc.
*Technically, a few things are noteworthy:*
* When logged into the Apps back-end
<https://apps.openerp.com/admin> using your OpenERP.com
<http://OpenERP.com> account you can now view your repositories
and apps, and check their status.
* The automatic verification of registered repositories and modules
includes additional checks: all dependencies must now be
registered and available for the corresponding series, otherwise
the module will be skipped during scanning until fixed (as it
would not be automatically installable)
* All repositories imported from the old Apps platform are currently
without owner, so each owner will be contacted to associate them
to a valid OpenERP.com <http://OpenERP.com> account^2 .
* Module uniqueness: in order to avoid ambiguous dependencies, the
pair /module-series/ must be unique across all repositories (e.g.
only one repository can own the 'crm' module for 7.0, so other
'crm' modules in other repositories will be skipped). The priority
is normally on a "first-come, first-served" basis, but exceptional
cases can be settled by sending an email to apps@xxxxxxxxxxx.
For any question or feedback, please reply to the list or send an
email to apps@xxxxxxxxxxx.
Thanks!
^1 : It must be located in /static/description/index.html, and can use
other static images. To get started quickly we recommend to reuse the
same styles and layout as found in the official descriptions, such as
CRM
<http://bazaar.launchpad.net/%7Eopenerp/openobject-addons/trunk/view/head:/crm/static/description/index.html>.
^2 : Repository owners will receive a message on the email they used
to register their apps, and will need to send the OpenERP.com
<http://OpenERP.com> login they wish to associate with their
repositories (e.g. the same account you use on OpenERP Help or the
OpenERP.com <http://OpenERP.com> portal)
