Fwd: Re: Fwd: New Report Engine

Hi there,

first of all thanks for sharing so many information about reports here.
I have taken a look on Cubic Report but I don't understand where I can define the reports oder anything. I've found the field 'Custom Cubic Report' but I also have no clou where it takes changes and how i just can print these reports. When I am using the simple print function it seems that openerp is using the normal reports.

I've found no hint for that in Documentation shared on Google Documents as well. So sorry if I ask, but if you guys can give me a hint how to get along with it i would be very thankfull.

Best Regards

Hi Nicolas, well, you are the developer of WebKit and know this engine very well, We only evaluate this time ago and we decide make another engine.

Excellent WebKit support cm and inchs.

Hello,

Intersting work indeed, we start to have quite an report echosystem.

I also have to refute this affirmation
"""

Cubic Report VS WebKit
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
WebKit is based on HTML and JS therefore don't support measures like cm or inch, for example to ubicate a label in a fixed position
"""

Webkit perfectly suport inch, pt,  cm, mm, etc you can have a look here: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~camptocamp/openerp-swiss-localization/7.0/view/head:/l10n_ch_payment_slip/report/bvr.mako [7]

Hi Ray, thanks by your email, some reasons to motivate to us on build a new report engine were the new features solicited by our customers like sub-reports, pagination control, groups on nested reports, fields print (label and value together), reports on list mode and form mode, integrated params window, report based on SQL, easy to build a new report based or extended a existing report class and many others features included on Cubic Report.

This is a brief list of comparatives between Cubic Report and others Reports Engines to OpenERP, from our point of view.

Cubic Report VS Jasper Reports and iReports
------------------------------------------------------------------
Cubic Report at this moment don't have a GUI to build a new report, but this is planed on Geraldo library Jasper Reports not is fully integrated to OpenERP, by example you dont build a windows params on OpenERP from Jasper report

Cubic Report VS RML Engine / OpenOffice Pluging
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cubic Report have report bands (like to Report Builder, Cristal Reports, etc) to build reports on easy way RML Engine is embedded on OpenERP Standard without any additional installation Cubic Report have profesional features like to sub-reports, groups, SQL support, and many other features

Cubic Report VS WebKit
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
WebKit is based on HTML and JS therefore don't support measures like cm or inch, for example to ubicate a label in a fixed position
Cubic Report have additional generators to CSV and Raw TXT

About the Pentaho we don't test it, but i suppose the fully integration with OpenERP is a advantage of Cubic Report.

I will be attentive to your comments and suggestions

Best Regards

Hi Yury,

Thanks for the contribution!

With many existing reporting options in OpenERP, are you able to give me a brief idea of the pros and cons of this option?

When would or should I use this instead of Pentaho, Webkit, RML, etc?

Ray.
