Several cases that I have seen:
You have to separates payroll runs: one for the regular ones and the other
for what we call 'aguinaldo'  or 13erd Anual Salary, for instance. Both
have the same payroll date.
Another more complex situation:
Due to some changes in regulations you have may to process  twice the same
period, In this case your payroll will be the differences.
There are some other cases, where the run date is a legal matter.
