Are you talking about confusion from the point of view of the user or
the programmer? I am a user, not a programmer. I can't imagine how
copying the BOM would cause confusion for the user. Can you explain or
give me an example of this confusion? Maybe this is a case where the
underlying programming is complex but from the point of view of the user
the process is obvious and very desirable.

Fundamentally, a BOM represents a certain amount of work to create. Just
like entering all the contact information for a partner. A means to
avoid repeating this work is highly desirable. We can duplicate a
contact. We should be able to duplicate a BOM in one way or another.
Duplication of the BOM at the time of product duplication is one way. An
additional way could be a "duplicate" option somewhere when dealing with
BOMs.

  Now: When you duplicate a product with a BOM, you get a product with no BOM.

  When you duplicate a product with a BOM, the BOM should follow in the
  product copy.

  Filling a BOM can take a looong time.
