Im' sorry to disagree but it's not a bug. We intentionally left that field editable because in the case you want to encode a long move such as
account A: debit 100
account B: credit 100
account C: debit 50
account D: credit 50
and so on...

you want to be able to keep on editing the same journal entry, so the
only way for the user is to be able to select manually the latest move
while encoding the line of account C.

But i agree that having the possibility to choose journal entries from
other journal/period than selected in the widget is very confusing. I
suggest to implement a domain on this field to filter only on records
sharing the same journal/period (if selected, otherwise any records). I
changed the bug status accordingly.

  [Trunk] journal entry number should not be editable

Bug description:
  Hello,

  When creating a new journal item, the journal entry number is editable.
  This field is based on a sequence calculated by sytem, the user must not be able to select anything here (otherwise you get a mix with another entry)
