Your idea works but it is not intuitive ; personally I would never though about that.

I see only one way to do that properly : create a button 'Post' to indicate the system you are done with that one. 
Ideally while you are in the middle of your move  you show 'Post' and hide  the 'Create' button and once you have posted you display the 'Create' button and hide 'Post'
That way you can have the  sequence as read-only

What do you think ?

  [Trunk] journal entry number should not be editable

Bug description:
  Hello,

  When creating a new journal item, the journal entry number is editable.
  This field is based on a sequence calculated by sytem, the user must not be able to select anything here (otherwise you get a mix with another entry)
