This bug is no duplicate, I don't have icedtea on my system.
Moreover, the link you post on Sun network does not work.
No wonder, since they have been purchased by Oracle it is all a big mess.

Bug description:
Helena x-64, updated today and installed Namoroka.
After that no more icon on desktop and no Java applets.
Went to Java site to test Java, not working.
Installed missing plugins, not working.
