Several reports after 9.04 -> 9. 10 that the 'headless Java' is damaged

Status in Ubuntu: New
Bug description:
After running a network upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 dpkg reported that the 'headless jdk' was installed but not configured.
Attempting to configure it generated errors relating to alternatives and 'keytool'.
Removiwd all alternatives associated with java and attempted to reconfigure and the configuration reported good.
However the installation is still reporting problems with headless jdk and there seems to be a recursive failure.
