After some testing, a possible cause to this problem has emerged on Launchpad 
:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/debian/+source/openjdk-6/+bug/551328
It seems there is some bad interraction between java plugin (applet) and some 
firefox add-ons (via javacript liveconnect API ?)

Would you please try to disable all your Firefox add-ons and/or start from a 
fresh profile ?
Could you please provide a list of your add-ons / plugins / version ?
