I have iceweasel 3.6.4 or 3.5.10 installed.
In the browser the plugin gets recognised (about:plugins) , but the test on java.com fails.

In iceweasel I get this output on stdout:
java version "1.6.0_18"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.8) (6b18-1.8-2)
OpenJDK Server VM (build 16.0-b13, mixed mode)
But as a result I get a page from this link:
http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp_jre_version=1.6.0_18&vendor=Sun+Microsystems+Inc.&os=Linux&os_version=2.6.34-1-686
Saying:
Sorry! We couldn't find the document requested.

Other java pages are not working as well.
E.g I get a:
Exception in thread "Thread-7" java.lang.NullPointerException
    at sun.applet.AppletPanel.showAppletStatus(AppletPanel.java:947)
    at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(AppletPanel.java:607)
    at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:636)
