I can't reproduce the issue with this system:
Ubuntu 10.10
jEdit 4.3.2
Java 1.6.0_20-b20 (/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre)

Also, the shell command "$ java -version" doesn't necessarily report the
JVM that's used by jEdit. Please double-check inside jEdit via
"Utilities -> Troubleshooting -> Activity Log" and look for
"java.home=".

Status in “openjdk-6” package in Ubuntu: New

Bug description:
jedit ctrl-b autocomplete is broken under openjdk, but works on sun java

To reproduce:
create a blank document in jedit

type "foo foobar fo"

then press ctrl-b, which should bring up an autocomplete popup, but instead flashes something up and inserts a square box into the document

Here are the version numbers of the stuff I'm running:
