[Bug 699859] Re: eclipse (Helios) crashes at random

That's a bug in the 64Bit version of the Sun JDK/JRE. You should add to your eclipse.ini the following line:
-XX:-UseCompressedOops

see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=333227 for some
details

A lot of distributions have been bitten by this bug during the last
weeks.

Title:
  eclipse (Helios) crashes at random

Status in “openjdk-6” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  - Computer: Dell Precision M6400 laptop, intel core 2 duo CPU T9600 @ 2.80Ghz, 64 bit, 4Gb of RAM
  - OS: Ubuntu 11.04 (64bit version)
  - Error description: When working with eclipse, the application suddenly quits, leaving only an error message (added). However, this behaviour only occurs when working on battery power and not connected through LAN. When working in my office (docking station) everything works perfectly. The crash of eclipse happens unpredictably, even when not using it, after a few minutes. I first wil try to do a clean install of ubuntu 10.10 to see if the problem persists.
