I am afraid that I am too illiterate in Java to be able to produce a small
minimal example of where things are failing.

I don't even know how to build this from the sources with ant (the most
obvious things like simply calling ant give me compilation errors), to see
if the problem would be some kind of bad interaction between libraries, VM
etc.
